V is for vodka.

So many premium vodka brands. Belvedere. Ciroc. Goose. How’s a girl to choose?

Sure, there’s a top 50 list, but I’m not one to go along with status quo. The true test is in the taste buds. My taste buds to be exact. I’m no vodka connoisseur. But I have come to discover an under the radar brands that can kick every vodka on that lists ass up and down the street, triple distilled times over.

808. The area code for my favorite locale in the world: Hawaii. The land of unrivaled beaches, relaxing lifestyles and..oh wow, the most magically delicious vodka EVER! It was discovered, on sale for about $12 bucks at Longs Drugs. Island 808 Vodka in a cool twisty glass bottle with a tiki man logo on front. They come in flavors typically found on the island: Pineapple, Coconut, Lychee, Mango, POG (pineapple orange guava). Yes, we’ll take a whole box, please.

The owners are surfers and the product descriptions are entertainingly conversational. Just what you’d expect from a local Hawaiian company. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

So what’s so ono about Island 808?

How about that it’s the one & only vodka that is triple distilled using pineapple.  Not potato or wheat or anything else typically used to make vodka. Nothing’s more Hawaiian than pineapple.Combine this with the infusion of fruit flavors and you get a crisp, clean taste that goes down smoooooth. So smooth, that we imbibed a little more than we realized, until of course, we realized that we were almost as twisted as that glass bottle we emptied into our plastic cups.

My girlfriend bought a carry on just to bring a bunch of bottles home. Thank God she did, because we crave a little taste of 808 while stranded on the mainland. I can’t help but wonder what in the hell we’re going to do when we’re down to the last bottle. Shoots!
